The Vietnam women’s national team secured a 3-2 victory over the Ho Chi Minh City women’s club in a friendly before SEA Games 33.
On the afternoon of November 1st, at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center (Hanoi), the Vietnam women’s national team played a friendly against the Ho Chi Minh City women’s club — the reigning champions of the National Women’s Football Championship. The final score was 3-2 in favor of the national team, with goals from Nguyễn Thị Vạn, Ngân Thị Vạn Sự, and Nguyễn Thị Bích Thùy. The two goals for Ho Chi Minh City were scored by foreign center-back Aubrey and Ngô Thị Hồng Nhung.
The two teams will face each other again on November 4th before the Ho Chi Minh City women’s club returns to prepare for the 2025/26 Asian Women’s Club Championship in Group A at Thống Nhất Stadium. Meanwhile, the national team will complete their training at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center next week before moving to Việt Trì on November 16th, prior to departing for training in Japan on the night of November 19th.
It is noted that the Ho Chi Minh City women’s club has seven members called up, including two coaching staff: head coach Đoàn Thị Kim Chi and goalkeeper coach Nguyễn Thị Kim Hồng. The remaining five players are Nguyễn Thị Huỳnh Như, Cù Thị Huỳnh Như, Quách Thu Em, Chương Thị Kiều, and Trần Thị Thu Thảo.
However, due to commitments in the 2025/2026 Asian Women’s Club Championship, Huỳnh Như and these players will join the Vietnam women’s national team on November 20th. Therefore, in the upcoming friendly, Huỳnh Như will wear the Ho Chi Minh City club jersey to compete against her national teammates. This promises to be a highly exciting match.
It is known that these seven members from the Ho Chi Minh City women’s club will join the Vietnam women’s national team on November 20th, right before the entire squad departs for training in Japan. These are key players for the national team but due to their schedule with the Ho Chi Minh City club in the AFC Women’s Champions League, they will join the national team about a month later than the rest.
According to the plan, starting November 20th, the women’s national team will travel to Japan for training and is expected to play three friendly matches against clubs that match the coaching staff’s tactical ideas, arranged with support from the Japan Football Association. After training, the team will return to Ho Chi Minh City to acclimate to weather conditions similar to Thailand’s before heading to compete in SEA Games 33.
