Frank Ilett, a dedicated Manchester United fan, is gaining viral attention on social media after pledging not to trim his hair until the “Red Devils” achieve five straight wins in every tournament.
What seemed like a playful vow from Frank Ilett has now lasted... over 393 days, and his hair has become a source of both amusement and empathy among the MU fan community.
This 29-year-old man, currently residing in Spain, began his challenge more than a year ago amid Manchester United’s decline and frequent dropped points. Although under coach Ruben Amorim, the team showed some improvement, maintaining a winning streak remained an “impossible” task. After three consecutive victories, fans thought Frank would soon be “freed,” but the team drew 2-2 in the latest match against Nottingham Forest, sending him back to... square one.
Frank Ilett’s story was quickly turned into a satirical advertisement video by sports betting site Paddy Power, attracting over 660,000 views on social media. In the clip, his barber shares: “It’s sad, he used to be my regular customer. Now he doesn’t even book appointments because there’s no point in cutting his hair.”
In the video, Frank explains: “At first, it was just for fun; I didn’t expect it to last this long. Anyway, if my hair looks bad, I just wear a hat.”
The highlight of the clip shows Frank rushing into the barbershop shouting: “It’s time!”prompting the barber to ask: “Has MU won 5 matches in a row yet?” But when Frank admits there have only been three wins, he sadly turns away and promises “I’ll be back soon.”. Six months later, the footage shows his hair noticeably longer, with the barber sighing and saying: “Typical MU fan!”
According to the schedule, if MU maintains their form, the fifth consecutive win could come by December 8. This means, if all goes well, Frank Ilett will have to wait at least another 5 weeks before cutting his hair, but given the team’s inconsistent performance, no one can say when his promise to “grow hair for MU” will finally end.
