After recovering from injury, Xuân Son’s debut official game could be with the Vietnam national squad.

As previously reported, Xuân Son will be called up to the Vietnam national team this November. Although he has just recovered from injury, the Brazilian-born naturalized striker is fully fit. On November 18, Vietnam will face Laos in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.

If coach Kim Sang Sik decides to use him against Laos, Xuân Son could don the Vietnam national team jersey even before playing again for his home club Nam Định after his injury comeback. This could be the striker’s first official match after being sidelined for 9 months.

The reason Xuân Son cannot immediately play for Nam Định Club is due to league regulations. Specifically, Thành Nam team did not register Xuân Son for the first phase of the 2025/2026 V-League season. The registration window for the second phase is from January 25, 2026, to March 17, 2026.

Therefore, the earliest V-League match Xuân Son can participate in this season is the 12th round game between Nam Định and Thanh Hóa. However, Nam Định registered him for the National Cup from the start of the season, allowing him to play in the match against Long An on November 23. Both these dates fall after the November FIFA window and the Laos match on November 18.

Calling Xuân Son back to the Vietnam national team this November carries two meanings. If he is not yet fit to play, he will still have the chance to train with teammates after a long injury absence. His return helps him quickly reconnect with the national team after 9 months away and also boosts morale for coach Kim Sang Sik’s squad at this time.

However, it is unlikely that Xuân Son will play immediately in the match against Laos this November. According to Nguyễn Trung Kiên, coach of Nam Định Club, Xuân Son has fully recovered and is completely ready to play again. Thành Nam team also plans to use Xuân Son in the V-League this November when the supplementary registration period opens.
