The Indonesian men's futsal team delivered an impressive performance to defeat Australia in a friendly game.
The Indonesian men's futsal squad hosted Australia at Indonesia Arena, Senayan, Jakarta on Saturday evening (1/11/2025) and won convincingly with a score of 3-1.
The standout player was Brian Ick, a Papuan athlete who scored twice, playing a major role in Indonesia's triumph. The other goal was scored by Reza Gunawan. These three goals delighted the large crowd at Indonesia Arena. Meanwhile, Australia managed only one goal, scored by Grant Lynch in the second half.
This match marked a historic milestone as it was the first time the Indonesian futsal team played at Indonesia Arena. Previously, the team mostly competed at other venues, notably Gor UNY and Gor Amongrogo in Yogyakarta.
The debut at Indonesia Arena was warmly welcomed by fans, with over 15,000 spectators filling the newly opened stadium, inaugurated in mid-2023.
Erick Thohir, president of the Indonesian Football Association, expressed high praise for the Indonesian futsal team's victory. He stated that the result demonstrates Indonesia's growing maturity in futsal and readiness to compete internationally. The win also strengthened Indonesia's position in the world rankings, standing 21st, ahead of Australia at 30th.
Erick Thohir commented: "This victory clearly proves the continuous development of Indonesian futsal and our increasing recognition on the international stage. It is the result of the efforts of the players, coaching staff, the federation, and especially the enthusiastic support from the fans."
The win over Australia is seen as the perfect preparation for the Indonesian futsal team ahead of SEA Games 33, where they will compete for the gold medal against hosts Thailand and Vietnam.
In the men's futsal category, with only five teams participating—Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Myanmar—the organizers decided to use a single round-robin format to determine the final rankings.
