Coach Hansi Flick spoke about Lamine Yamal's injury after Barcelona's win against Elche.
Barcelona demonstrated their overwhelming strength with a victory over Elche in the Round 11 match of La Liga.
Before the match started, the main focus was on Lamine Yamal's injury situation. The Spanish player is believed to suffer from a chronic groin injury, which currently has no definitive cure, raising concerns about his playing fitness. In the post-match press conference, Coach Hansi Flick mentioned that Yamal's injury has not fully healed yet, but he believes the young player is gradually learning to adapt and manage the condition.
The German tactician shared: "Yamal’s injury requires careful monitoring and management; he is very disciplined. He must continue regular training and treatment, and he is doing very well. I cannot say the injury has completely healed because it sometimes flares up. What matters is that Yamal knows how to adjust himself to overcome it."
Despite the serious injury, Yamal pushed himself to play alongside his teammates and was the one who opened the scoring for the Catalan side against Elche.
Up to now, the 2007-born rising star has scored four goals and provided five assists in nine appearances across all competitions. Although he has not maintained the same form as last season, Yamal’s presence is seen as an inspiration for his teammates to strive for positive results in the future.
Regarding Barcelona’s style of play, Hansi Flick also expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance against Elche but felt his players deserved a more decisive victory.
He added: "If we had taken our chances better, the score could have been 6-2 or 5-2. Today was another important step forward for the team. Before the break, we have two more matches and our goal is to win both. The first will be next Wednesday in the Champions League."
Thanks to this win, Barcelona have reduced the gap with their archrivals Real Madrid to 5 points. Ahead, Yamal and his teammates will focus on the upcoming fourth group stage match against Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League.
