Coach Popov: 'I have a deep love for Thanh Hóa'

The Bulgarian coach showed a hint of sadness as Thể Công Viettel secured a 1-0 victory over Thanh Hóa.

On the evening of November 2nd, an emotional reunion took place between Coach Popov and the Thanh Hóa club at the home stadium of the Thanh Hóa team. Ultimately, the Bulgarian coach and Thể Công Viettel achieved their goal of 3 points with a 1-0 win against the hosts.

Throughout the match, Coach Popov appeared quite pensive. At the 31st minute when Đinh Viết Tú scored for the soldier-clad team, he did not celebrate. In the post-match press conference, Coach Popov shared:

“I truly love Thanh Hóa. Even though we won today, I still feel a bit saddened. Thanh Hóa has quality players and does not deserve to be at the bottom of the table by the end of this season,” he expressed his regret about Thanh Hóa's struggles this season.

Commenting on Thanh Hóa’s talented young players like Ngọc Mỹ, Văn Thuận, and Thái Sơn, Coach Popov affirmed: “Ngọc Mỹ, Văn Thuận, and Thái Sơn are not only talents of Thanh Hóa but also represent the future of Vietnamese football.”

The 3 points from this match helped Thể Công Viettel return to the top 3 in the standings and provided a morale boost for the players after their loss to HAGL. On the other side, Thanh Hóa failed in their effort to escape the bottom group. In the next round, Coach Choi Won Kwon’s team will travel to Pleiku to face the Mountain Town team – a direct competitor in this season’s league.
