The Football Association of Thailand has submitted a letter to AFC and AFF asking for approval to wear black kits during the time of national mourning.
Under royal patronage, the Football Association of Thailand has sent a letter to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF), requesting approval to change their team uniforms to black and to hold a one-minute moment of silence before the start of all domestic and international club matches.
Previously, the Football Association of Thailand announced guidelines for mourning across all levels of football competition, requiring players, team officials, and referees to wear black armbands on one arm to show respect, and to display condolence messages on stadium screens.
Additionally, spectators are asked not to use noisy cheering devices such as drums, horns, or inappropriate signs. They are also requested to support the teams in a polite, respectful, and solemn manner befitting the mourning atmosphere.
The Thailand national team will play during the FIFA international window from November 10 to 18, 2025, including a friendly match against Singapore on November 13, 2025, before competing in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers, Group D, Match 5, as they visit Sri Lanka’s national team on November 18, 2025.
On October 24, Thailand received the sad news of Queen Mother Sirikit’s death at the age of 93. Accordingly, King Maha Vajiralongkorn ordered a national mourning period and declared it to last for one year for the royal family and court officials, starting from October 24.
The Minister of Tourism and Sports added that ongoing sports events, such as the Thai League, will not be canceled or postponed. However, the organization of these events will be adjusted to include mourning protocols and to reduce entertainment-related activities to suit the current situation.
