Malaysia has been deducted 6 points, and the Vietnam national team will participate in the 2027 Asian Cup.

If the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) rules Malaysia to lose 0-3 in their two matches against Vietnam and Nepal, Coach Kim Sang Sik’s team will have a very clear path to the 2027 Asian Cup finals.

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) was "shocked" by FIFA’s decision to uphold penalties against FAM and seven naturalized players involved in a document forgery scandal, and they have declared their intention to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

In a statement issued on the evening of November 3, FAM confirmed they had received FIFA’s Appeal Committee ruling, which rejected FAM’s appeal. However, FAM said they will request FIFA to provide the full detailed written decision and reasons before proceeding to the next step.

"FAM has received FIFA’s decision, which dismisses our appeal," said Acting President Datuk Yusoff Mahadi.

"FAM will send a formal letter to FIFA requesting the detailed decision and specific reasons before taking the next step of appealing to CAS."

Mr. Yusoff admitted that this result completely surprised the association: "This is the first time FAM has encountered such a situation, and both our legal team and management were very surprised by FIFA’s ruling," he stated.

"Nonetheless, FAM will continue to steadfastly defend the rights of the players and the interests of Malaysian football on the international stage."

Previously, FIFA announced that the Appeal Committee confirmed FAM violated Article 22 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, related to forgery and document fraud.

According to the ruling, FAM was fined 350,000 CHF (about 1.9 million RM), while the seven players — Gabriel Palmero, Facundo Garcés, Rodrigo Holgado, Imanol Machuca, Joao Figueiredo, Jon Irazabal, and Hector Hevel — were each fined 2,000 CHF (around 10,600 RM) and banned from all football activities for 12 months.

FAM now has 10 days to request FIFA to provide the detailed written judgment and 21 more days to submit an appeal to CAS, which will deliver the final ruling on this case.

The case involving FAM and the seven players is considered complicated, involving many parties, so the trial period may be extended.

Currently, the Malaysian national team is still allowed to play the upcoming matches in the final round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, where they lead with 12 points from four games.

However, based on the competition rules, they could be handed 0-3 losses or even disqualified for fielding ineligible players in matches against Nepal and Vietnam.
