Real Madrid coach praises Liverpool star ahead of the big clash

Florian Wirtz has not shown much since moving to Liverpool, yet coach Xabi Alonso trusts that his ex-student will quickly excel and demonstrate his class in the Premier League.

Florian Wirtz is going through a tough period at Liverpool, but coach Xabi Alonso is confident the German midfielder will soon prove his worth in the Premier League.

Since leaving Bayer Leverkusen during the summer transfer window to join Anfield, Wirtz has yet to leave his mark, having no goals or assists in the Premier League so far. Nevertheless, Alonso, who also left Leverkusen to manage Real Madrid, firmly believes his former player will shine soon.

Alonso said at the pre-match press conference: “Absolutely, I have no doubts. He just needs more time to adapt. Moving from Germany to England after many years at Leverkusen is a huge change, but Wirtz is a special player with quality, character, and a strong competitive spirit. Once he finds his rhythm, he will definitely explode onto the scene, just like many stars who have done so in the Premier League.”

The Spanish coach also revealed that Wirtz was one of the key players who helped him build success at Leverkusen, paving the way for the opportunity to be invited to coach Real Madrid. “I’m very grateful to Flo. He was part of the journey that brought me here,” Alonso added.

Returning to Merseyside for the first time as Real Madrid’s coach, Alonso also brought along Trent Alexander-Arnold, the English defender who left Liverpool amid a summer transfer controversy.

When asked about his player potentially facing a hostile atmosphere at Anfield, Alonso responded calmly: “We haven’t talked about emotions, but I believe Trent will know how to enjoy it. He was born and raised in Liverpool, won the Champions League there, so coming back is definitely very special.”

Alonso stated that Alexander-Arnold has recovered from injury and is ready to play: “He is at a new stage in his career both physically and mentally. We need the excellent qualities he brings to the Real Madrid squad.”
