VFF officially responds after FIFA rejects the appeal from the Football Association of Malaysia

The Vietnam Football Federation has announced that FIFA has dismissed the appeal filed by the Football Association of Malaysia concerning the illegal naturalization of 7 players.

"FIFA rejects the appeal, upholding the sanctions against the Football Association of Malaysia and the 7 naturalized players", according to the official website of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).

According to VFF, FIFA has rejected the appeal and decided to maintain the penalties against FAM and the 7 naturalized players. The Vietnam Football Federation also stated that Malaysia is still allowed to play the remaining matches in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, but under the disciplinary regulations of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Malaysia risks forfeiting 0-3 losses in the two previous matches against Nepal and Vietnam due to fielding ineligible players.

Also, the Vietnam Football Federation noted that the final decision on this matter will be made by the AFC, the organizer of the Asian Cup, after FAM completes all related legal procedures. This process is expected to conclude by March 31, 2026, the end of the final qualifying round, to ensure there is sufficient basis to determine the teams qualifying for the 2027 Asian Cup finals.

A miracle for Malaysia is unlikely

Late on November 3rd, Southeast Asia was stirred after FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Committee issued a decision rejecting all appeals from the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and the 7 naturalized players regarding the disciplinary sanctions previously imposed by FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee.

The Malaysian Football Association confirmed they will write to FIFA to request full detailed information and the written reasons for this decision before proceeding with the next step, which is to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

According to Datuk Wira Mohd Yusoff Haji Mahadi, Acting President of FAM, this is the first time the Malaysian Football Association has faced such a situation, and both the legal team and management were surprised by the outcome. However, FAM remains committed to protecting the rights of the players and defending Malaysia’s interests on the international football stage.
