Former Manchester United striker confirms his official return to the club

After retiring, Fraizer Campbell confirmed his return to Manchester United, where he participates in media activities, charity initiatives, and youth coaching in Huddersfield, his hometown.

Life after hanging up the boots is a major challenge for many professional footballers. Without intense training sessions or stadium lights, many must find new paths to remain connected to football. Fraizer Campbell — a former striker for Manchester United, Sunderland, Tottenham, and Crystal Palace — is one such individual.

At 38 years old, Campbell has discovered a new direction in his career. In an interview with The Echo, he confirmed that he has resumed working with Manchester United in various capacities.

“I’m involved in quite a few roles in Manchester — at Man United, the club’s charity foundation, MUTV, and occasionally some Malaysian TV channels as well as Sky Sports,” Campbell shared.

Besides his media role, Campbell also coaches Huddersfield Town’s U18 team — his hometown club. “I also do a bit of coaching in Huddersfield, just with the youth team. They think it’s a job for them, but really I do it for myself — for the joy and passion for football,” he added.

The former English striker emphasized that working with the younger generation helps him stay close to football. Despite a busy schedule, Campbell strives to balance work, family, and passion. He said returning to Manchester United is not only a career opportunity but also a way to “give back” to the place that helped launch his career.

Throughout his playing career, Campbell was a promising talent developed at Manchester United’s Carrington academy. Sir Alex Ferguson gave him the chance to debut for the first team before he moved to Sunderland — where he made his most significant impact.

“People always ask me which club I loved most while playing, and my answer is always the same — Sunderland holds my most special memories,” Campbell revealed. “It was both the best and the toughest period of my career.”

After many years as a professional, Campbell understands that a football career cannot last forever. Therefore, he chose to reinvent himself by combining media work, coaching, and community involvement. This active lifestyle allows him to maintain the familiar rhythm of football without returning to the pitch as a player.

Like other former stars who returned to Manchester United such as Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick, Campbell is becoming part of the club’s effort to connect different generations of players. His return inspires young players dreaming of making their mark at Old Trafford.

From a young striker under Sir Alex to a mentor for the next generation, Fraizer Campbell continues his journey with Manchester United in a completely new role.
