Lionel Messi expressed deep emotions during his participation in the American Business Forum in Miami, USA, an event featuring notable personalities from sports, business, and politics including Donald Trump, Rafael Nadal, Gianni Infantino, and Javier Milei.
Before his speech, Messi was presented with the "key to the city" by Miami’s mayor, Francis Suarez, an honor given to individuals who have made a positive impact on the community. The Argentine legend received a roaring applause from the audience as he stepped onto the stage.
According to MARCA, recalling the moment Argentina won the 2022 World Cup, Messi emotionally stated: “When we won the championship, I felt exactly the same as when my children were born. It is a feeling that is very hard to describe, both unique and immense, no matter how much I try to explain it.”
The Inter Miami star said he still cannot forget those glorious moments with his national team, considering it the “highest point” of his playing career. Looking ahead to the 2026 World Cup to be held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, Messi expressed great anticipation: “I believe this tournament will be incredibly special. Everything promises to be organized at the highest level.”
When asked about his journey, Messi opened up: “I have gone through many difficult phases but never doubted myself or gave up. I have always pursued my dreams together with my family. I always say that God gave me a gift, and I try to cherish it every day.”
Messi’s statement came shortly after a recent comment from Ronaldo. The Portuguese superstar said the World Cup was not his dream.
He also revealed about the “Messi Cup”, a global friendly tournament he initiated: “There will be many exciting matches featuring top clubs from around the world.”
Messi confirmed he is close to extending his contract with Inter Miami until 2028, alongside the club’s new stadium project: “The extension is tied to the happiness of me and my family. We are enjoying a wonderful time and want to continue contributing to the club’s growth.”
The American Business Forum lasted two days (November 5 and 6) at Kaseya Center, featuring many big names such as Will Smith, Serena Williams, Gianni Infantino, and Javier Milei. The event was opened by the US President Donald Trump, highlighting the global influence of sports, culture, and technology in the new era.
