MU faces a new shock in the Premier League

Manchester United drew 2-2 with Tottenham but suffered a double blow as Harry Maguire and Benjamin Sesko were both injured, leaving coach Ruben Amorim troubled over squad selection for the upcoming period.

Manchester United maintained their unbeaten streak in the Premier League after a thrilling 2-2 draw against Tottenham, yet that joy quickly faded when key players Harry Maguire and Benjamin Sesko both sustained injuries, causing coach Ruben Amorim to face a difficult personnel challenge.

The match at Tottenham Hotspur’s stadium was exciting as Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring for the Red Devils with a precise header in the first half. However, the momentum shifted gradually to the home side after the break.

Mathys Tel and Richarlison scored consecutively to put Spurs ahead 2-1 before Matthijs de Ligt netted a stoppage-time goal to secure a valuable point for MU. Nevertheless, this draw could not overshadow the serious setbacks Amorim’s team endured.

According to BBC, Harry Maguire had to leave the pitch in the 72nd minute due to a hamstring injury, making way for young talent Leny Yoro. The 32-year-old center-back had been struggling with fitness issues for two weeks, missing the Brighton match and only sitting on the bench against Nottingham Forest.

Meanwhile, tragedy struck again near the end when Benjamin Sesko—who entered the game in the 58th minute—fell after a fierce challenge with defender Micky van de Ven. The Tottenham player’s well-timed tackle not only denied Sesko a clear scoring chance but also caused a severe injury that forced him off the field.

Worse still, coach Amorim had used all his substitutions, forcing MU to play with 10 men in the final minutes. “This is very bad news for Manchester United. Sesko’s injury forced him off, leaving the visitors to finish the match with only 10 players,” commented BBC. After the game, the Portuguese coach admitted: “We need to assess the situation; we thought there was an issue, but we have to wait and see. It’s disappointing, but I’m proud of how the players reacted after conceding.”

Notably, Sesko’s injury came just before the Slovenia vs Kosovo match in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. According to Gazeta Express, if Sesko can’t recover in time, it will be a significant loss for Slovenia but an opportunity for Kosovo—their direct rivals in the group. Currently, the 20-year-old striker’s condition is undisclosed, but his painful exit has caused concern among United fans.

Maguire and Sesko are both key figures in Amorim’s rebuilding plan. One brings experience and solidity to defense, while the other is a promising new hope in attack.

Two injuries within less than 20 minutes are not only a shock to MU but also a stark warning about the toll of the Premier League’s demanding schedule. United will have a two-week break before facing Everton on November 24—a precious period for Amorim and the club’s medical staff to hope for a miracle recovery for these key players.

Without them, Manchester United’s journey through the challenging upcoming phase will undoubtedly be much harder.
