Manchester United supporters unanimously voiced their frustration towards manager Ruben Amorim following the 2-2 tie with Tottenham, accusing him of a critical mistake in how he deployed Bryan Mbeumo during the match.
Manchester United traveled to Tottenham Hotspur's stadium aiming to extend their unbeaten streak in the Premier League. The visitors started well as Bryan Mbeumo scored the opening goal in the 32nd minute with a precise header from Amad Diallo's assist.
However, the early advantage did not last long. Spurs surged back strongly in the second half, equalizing in the 84th minute thanks to Mathys Tel. In stoppage time, Richarlison put Tottenham ahead 2-1, before Matthijs de Ligt shone with a header to level 2-2, allowing the Red Devils to leave North London with a valuable point.
Although they did not lose, Man Utd fans flooded social media to criticize Ruben Amorim over a controversial decision: leaving Bryan Mbeumo, who was recently honored as “Player of the Month for October”playing on the left wing instead of his natural right side. Many believed this prevented the Cameroonian star from fully showcasing his skills and negatively impacted the team’s attacking effectiveness.
One supporter wrote: “Amorim cost United by keeping Mbeumo on the left wing all game.” Another expressed frustration: “Mbeumo stayed left, Cunha was on the right, and Sesko came on without any tactical change. I don’t understand what he was thinking.”
Some opinions also suggested the Portuguese coach was too slow in making changes. “Cunha played terribly today. They should have brought on Mount or Zirkzee earlier,” commented one user. Another fan even claimed: “This might be Amorim’s worst coaching performance this season. Why keep Mbeumo out of position for the entire 90 minutes?” These reactions spread rapidly on platform X (Twitter), where thousands of fans voiced their displeasure after the match.
In reality, although Mbeumo scored the opener, his second-half performance faded as he was restricted to an unfavorable position. He is known for his dribbling, cutting inside from the right wing, and linking up with Amad Diallo—an aspect nearly absent in the final half. Amorim’s tactical choice led many to believe United missed the chance to secure all three points, especially as Tottenham struggled defensively late in the game.
The 2-2 result keeps Manchester United in 7th place on the table, seven points behind leaders Arsenal, who still have a game in hand. Despite extending the Red Devils’ unbeaten run to five matches, the pressure on Ruben Amorim has significantly increased, particularly as fans feel he is “making things difficult for his best player.”
