The top Vietnamese-American center-back sets a memorable milestone in Vietnam

Vietnamese-American center-back Kyle Colonna netted his inaugural goal in the 2025/26 V-League season.

In his 10th match wearing the jersey of The Cong Viettel, American-Vietnamese center-back Kyle Colonna scored his first V.League goal, playing a key role in helping the soldier team regain control against PVF CAND.

At the 73rd minute, from a set-piece, the ball was lofted into the penalty area and Colonna rose high to deliver a precise header, beating goalkeeper Đỗ Sỹ Huy to equalize 1-1 for The Cong Viettel. This goal was not only significant on the scoreboard but also marked a memorable milestone in the journey of the 1999-born player in Vietnam.

After 10 matches, the dual American-Vietnamese center-back officially "opened his account" in the V-League, confirming his rapid adaptation and growing influence in coach Popov’s squad.

With his impressive physique and superior fitness, Kyle Colonna is not only a solid defensive pillar but also a real aerial threat. His headed goal against PVF CAND clearly demonstrates his ability to contribute effectively to the attack.

Kyle Colonna began playing in Vietnam from the 2024/2025 season after leaving New Mexico United (USL Championship). In a short time, he made a strong impression with Hanoi FC, appearing in 18 matches in the V-League and National Cup before transferring to The Cong Viettel. At the soldier team, Colonna quickly became a defensive cornerstone, playing a major role in helping Viettel maintain a top position in the league standings.

Notably, Kyle Colonna’s mother is of Vietnamese-Chinese descent living in Hanoi. The Cong Viettel club is also completing the necessary procedures to assist him in acquiring Vietnamese citizenship, which could open the door for him to represent the national team in the near future.
