Amorim reveals the qualities of the MU rookie that made Onana concede defeat

Coach Ruben Amorim offered straightforward guidance to Senne Lammens after his “hit and miss” display during the intense 2-2 draw between Manchester United and Tottenham on November 8.

The Belgian goalkeeper is solidifying his position as Manchester United’s number one, having started consecutively in the lineup. Lammens has been the starting keeper in the last five Premier League matches, keeping one clean sheet since being trusted amid Altay Bayindir’s previous chances and Andre Onana losing his top spot at Old Trafford.

This 23-year-old goalkeeper has played a major role in victories against Sunderland, Liverpool, and Brighton, while also making crucial saves in matches versus Nottingham Forest and Tottenham. His calm demeanor brings a fresh breath to Manchester United’s defense, completely contrasting with the impatient style of Andre Onana and Altay Bayındır.

This did not escape coach Amorim’s notice. Whereas Onana or Bayındır often make further mistakes after an initial error, Lammens maintains composure. After an early ball-handling mistake, the Belgian goalkeeper quickly regained his focus and consistently produced excellent saves for the remainder of the game. Amorim shared with TNT Sports:

“He is doing very well. He is very mature and understands that in football, anything can happen, especially for a goalkeeper, you must learn to forget the previous mistake and keep playing. Every time the ball is in play, it’s like a new match. Even at 23 years old,Lammens grasps this concept very clearly.”

In fact, Lammens had little chance to stop Mathys Tel’s equalizer when the ball slightly deflected off De Ligt. He was also not at fault when Richarlison’s long-range shot in stoppage time turned the game against Manchester United. Fortunately for the Red Devils, De Ligt became a hero in the final stoppage minute by heading the visitors away from London with a point.

Despite an imperfect start, Lammens showed resilience to finish the match strongly. In the fierce competition for the number one spot, his growth in every game will be key for the young Belgian goalkeeper to continue impressing coach Amorim and Manchester United fans.
