Scott McTominay suggests that Napoli's manager Antonio Conte acquire Manchester United's rising star Kobbie Mainoo in the upcoming January transfer period to boost the midfield after Kevin De Bruyne's injury.
Midfielder Scott McTominay has just recommended that Napoli's coach Antonio Conte should recruit Kobbie Mainoo, a highly promising young talent from Manchester United, in the January transfer window.
Since leaving Old Trafford, McTominay has experienced a strong resurgence in Serie A. Joining Napoli last summer, the Scottish player quickly adapted and became an indispensable key player under Conte. He was even named Serie A's Best Player last season, playing a major role in helping Napoli successfully defend their title.
According to sources from The Sun, McTominay personally spoke with Conte, advising the Italian coach to bring Mainoo to Naples. “Scott told Conte that Kobbie is an extremely talented player, well-trained at Manchester United's academy with a professional mindset. He believes Mainoo will quickly fit in and become a valuable addition to Napoli's midfield,” the source revealed.
Mainoois currently struggling at Old Trafford, rarely used by coach Amorim. So far this season, he has only played 138 minutes in the Premier League and started just once in a League Cup loss to Grimsby. Despite his desire to leave for more playing time during a World Cup year, Manchester United has kept the youngster as they have not yet found a replacement.
However, this situation might change in January when the “Red Devils” plan to strengthen their midfield with targets like Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, or Elliot Anderson. At that point, Mainoo’s opportunity to leave Manchester may open up.
Napoli also urgently needs a new midfielder after Kevin De Bruyne suffered a thigh injury, sidelining him until the end of the year. Therefore, it is quite possible that Conte will heed McTominay’s advice to sign Mainoo either on loan or through a permanent transfer.
If the deal goes through, Mainoo could become the next piece in the “revival project” of former Manchester United stars at Napoli, where McTominay, Lukaku, and Hojlund are all shining brightly.
