PSG is preparing a deal that could shake up the entire European transfer market: spending 200 million euros to acquire Erling Haaland from Man City.
With PSG lacking a truly elite striker and always ready to splurge on superstars, the possibility of them signing Haaland is by no means unrealistic.
Haaland is the perfect piece
After parting ways with Kylian Mbappe, although PSG won both Ligue 1 and the Champions League, they are still regarded as missing a genuine top-class striker. Luis Enrique operates a balanced attacking system, but PSG’s frontline lacks a "penalty box killer" like Haaland. Goncalo Ramos is the only striker in the squad but hasn’t yet reached a high level. Meanwhile, forwards like Dembele, Barcola, Kvaratskhelia, and Doue are more wingers than finishers.
At 25, Haaland is not just a great scorer. He is a striker who makes a tactical difference: strong, fast, excellent at finishing, and with a frightening goal-scoring instinct. This season at Man City, Haaland has scored 19 goals in 15 matches; for Norway’s national team, he has 16 goals in 8 World Cup qualifiers.
PSG understands that to maintain their status after winning the Champions League, they must continue to have a new icon. Haaland is the ideal choice on the market, especially as he is still seen as the future of world football for the next 5–7 years.
Under the reign of the Qatari owners, PSG has never hesitated to spend. Neymar, Mbappe, Messi, Ramos, Di Maria, Ibrahimovic, Verratti… all have come to Paris because PSG has big ambitions and strong finances. Spending 200 million euros on Haaland, considering PSG’s spending history, is not surprising. They once paid 220 million for Neymar, 180 million for Mbappe, and 95 million for Kolo Muani.
The possibility of Haaland joining PSG is not unrealistic
Man City does not want to sell, but PSG still has a chance
What makes the deal dramatic is Haaland’s future at Man City. Although the Norwegian striker just signed a contract until 2034, many reliable sources confirm Haaland’s release clause still exists, though it cannot be triggered immediately.
Man City considers Haaland "untouchable." He is the foundation of Pep Guardiola’s tactics and is the Premier League’s highest-scoring star. Losing Haaland would be a severe blow to City, especially as they no longer maintain absolute dominance in England.
But City’s problem lies in one key point: Pep Guardiola’s future. Many English sources say this season might be Pep’s last at Etihad. If the Spanish coach leaves, Haaland’s future could become uncertain. A "new era" at Man City might make the Norwegian striker consider new challenges in his career.
PSG fully understands this and is trying to influence things from multiple angles. They want to make Haaland the centerpiece of their new project, turning him into the symbol replacing Mbappe and the perfect piece to maintain their position in Europe.
Another reason PSG is confident is Haaland’s proactiveness. The 25-year-old player has never hidden his ambition to experience football in various environments. From Bryne, Molde, Salzburg to Dortmund and Man City, Haaland has always been ready to move when necessary to grow his career. Paris could definitely be the next destination, with top facilities, a strong squad, and ambitions to win multiple European titles.
Moreover, the 200 million euros PSG is ready to offer is within their financial capability. According to French media, PSG is willing to sell Goncalo Ramos and Lee Kang In to free up salary budget and gain more funds for the Haaland deal. Some other stars might also leave if needed. With a new financial model focusing on balance but still able to make explosive moves when necessary, PSG can pull off a world-shaking transfer.
If Haaland is moved by PSG’s sporting project, or if Pep Guardiola leaves Man City, this deal could become the "transfer bomb of the decade."
