Manchester United is prepared to extend the contract of 33-year-old Brazilian star Casemiro, but they insist on a significant salary decrease. What is the exact cut? It is said that the club offered a new one-year contract with a base weekly salary of £120,000, rising to £150,000 per week with incentives.

Currently, Casemiro earns £350,000 per week on a four-year contract. Manchester United’s requested pay cut exceeds £200,000 weekly, leaving him and his agent Oscar Ribot dissatisfied with the new terms, causing negotiations to stall. Reportedly, "Fat Tiger" is exploring options in the Saudi Professional League.
Casemiro’s contract renewal appears to hinge on salary, but the situation is more complex, involving finances, squad planning, player ambitions, and offers from other clubs. Manchester United’s management remains hesitant.
United’s head coach Ruben Amorin insists Casemiro provides midfield stability; his experience, composure, and professionalism serve as a role model for younger teammates. Amorin reiterated internally that Casemiro is vital for maintaining the team’s structure, especially in crucial matches, where his tactical intelligence could prove decisive.
However, the final decision may not lie with Amorin. Casemiro’s contract expires at the end of this season, and although Manchester United holds an option to extend it by one year, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos management team has clearly stated they will not exercise it.
Sir Ratcliffe restructured the club financially, including major layoffs, prioritizing wage reduction and ending the era of long-term, high-salary contracts with veteran players. Casemiro was a transfer criticized by Ratcliffe even before his takeover; at 34 by season’s end and unable to play full matches weekly, he is not considered a long-term starter.

From Casemiro’s perspective, Manchester United remains a world-class club, and he prefers to stay in Manchester. He and his family like the city, appreciate the club, and believe under Amorin’s leadership, he can contribute more. Yet, the huge salary gap between his current pay and the offer complicates matters.
If his wages drop sharply, Casemiro must weigh factors on and off the pitch. This is a critical moment to sign the ideal final career contract. United’s one-year deal doesn’t guarantee long-term future, while outside interests include wealthy Saudi clubs and MLS, which values Casemiro’s global fame and impressive credentials to boost the league’s appeal.
Casemiro’s performances over the past year have earned wide recognition, including praise from his Brazilian teammate Bruno Guimaraes, Newcastle captain, who openly stated that Casemiro is a role model for all players, himself included.
Guimaraes commented: "Experience, honors... his career speaks volumes. He is a versatile player. When I joined Brazil’s squad in 2020, they asked if any midfielders inspired me, and I said Casemiro. He is our idol because of all he has achieved, especially at Real Madrid, where he won five Champions League titles. Every Brazilian midfielder talks about Casemiro; he is the example we must follow and a true leader."
However, if the current situation remains unchanged, Casemiro may have to leave Manchester United after this season. Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the differences between the parties make renewal impossible.

"Casemiro is currently a key player for Manchester United and deserves praise. Despite the club’s difficulties, he faces much criticism, and proving himself under such circumstances is not easy. After winning all honors at Real Madrid, he still strives to change opinions of coaches, managers, and fans—and he succeeded. He is excellent, trains hard, and has become a crucial player for the head coach again. Now, he is very important to Amorin, but contract talks are strictly business. At present, his salary demands are too high for Manchester United to renew."
