Strikers Ricardo Pepi and the ex-Bayern Munich prodigy Paul Wanner were given starting roles, with Wanner replacing the injured Ivan Perisic, and with their presence, PSV controlled the opportunity-filled opening period. Esmir Bajraktarevic, Ismael Saibari and Pepi all came close to scoring before Joey Veerman netted his sixth Eredivisie goal of the season.
Pepi then scored a second for PSV in the 23rd minute, skillfully maneuvering the ball past Kayne van Oevelen to effectively secure the match well before halftime.
Volendam key player Henk Veerman almost brought his team back into the game when the tall striker earned a chance just before halftime but missed his only opportunity in a half dominated by an unstoppable PSV.
The home side increased their pressure immediately after the break, with Wanner and Saibari testing Van Oevelen early on. Guus Til, who has been playing as PSV’s main striker while Pepi regained full fitness, scored PSV’s third and his tenth goal of the season with a simple finish into the far corner.
American-Bosnian Bajraktarevic made several attempts to extend his season’s goal count but was unsuccessful, leaving the score at 3-0 in favor of the defending champions.
This victory, PSV’s ninth in their last ten matches across all competitions, perfectly capped a fantastic week for the Eindhoven team, who had previously beaten Premier League champions Liverpool 4-1 in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
