Real Madrid were unable to retake the top position in LaLiga after drawing with Girona, a team currently in crisis, early this morning (December 1).

Playing away at Girona, who are positioned near the bottom of the league table, Real Madrid were expected to win but ended up with a draw.

Coach Xabi Alonso’s squad had a one-point lead over Barcelona last weekend, but by the end of matchday 14, they fell behind the Catalan club by one point. Their poor form has led to just one win in their last five games across all competitions.

Real struggled to generate clear scoring opportunities against Girona. In the first half, they controlled 55% of the ball and took nine shots but failed to score. At the 45th minute, Real conceded a goal.

Ounahi scored the opening goal for Girona near the end of the first half.

Central defender Éder Militão, returning after missing two matches due to injury, failed to tightly mark Ounahi, allowing the midfielder to comfortably finish from a Viktor Tsygankov pass at 14 meters. This goal stunned Real Madrid supporters.

It was only in the second half that Real Madrid equalized 1-1. Mbappe scored from the penalty spot in the 67th minute after Girona’s Hugo Rincon fouled Vinícius Junior inside the box.
