The English Football Association (FA) will impose a significant fine on Arsenal after their tense encounter with Chelsea in Premier League round 13.
As expected, Chelsea and Arsenal delivered a fiery clash in the London derby during the 13th round of the Premier League. Trevoh Chalobah scored first for Chelsea early in the second half, before Mikel Merino headed in the equalizer in the 59th minute, ending the game at 1-1.
This result allows Arsenal to maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League, five points ahead of Man City, while Chelsea is in third place, one point behind Man City.
The match at Stamford Bridge was fiercely contested, with referee Anthony Taylor issuing a total of seven yellow cards. He rescinded a yellow card for Moises Caicedo in the first half after reviewing VAR, and then issued a direct red card to the Ecuadorian midfielder for a dangerous foul on Merino.
Left-back Marc Cucurella was the only Chelsea player to receive an additional yellow card, while the other six yellows were given to Arsenal players. Midfielder Martin Zubimendi was the first to be booked within the first five minutes, followed by defenders Cristhian Mosquera, Riccardo Calafiori, and Piero Hincapie.
Myles Lewis-Skelly, who replaced Calafiori in the second half, also received a yellow card less than 10 minutes after coming on. Later, striker Viktor Gyokeres was booked for a sliding foul on Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, marking his return from a thigh injury as he came on for Eberechi Eze.
Under current FA rules, any team that accumulates six or more yellow cards in a match will be fined £25,000.
Chelsea's disciplinary issues continued in the match against Arsenal as Caicedo received his first red card in 130 Premier League appearances. Although this was Caicedo’s first sending off, it marked Chelsea’s fourth red card in 13 domestic league matches this season and the seventh across 20 games in all competitions under coach Enzo Maresca.
Currently, Chelsea sits at the bottom of the Premier League Fair Play table, after finishing 19th last season.
