Before the Emirates fixture, Arteta began this morning’s press conference by addressing their increasing injury concerns.

He stated: "Yes (it’s frustrating), especially the way we lost them, with Leo (Trossard) too, as he was in excellent form.

"(Gabi) Martinelli couldn’t play more than he did on Sunday (against Chelsea). (William) Saliba was also unable to participate in training."

Regarding Saliba, Arteta added: "The ankle injury was very random and unlucky. He tried to play at Anfield but had to sit out. This latest one is also strange, but hopefully it will only take a few days."

Arteta also provided an update on Kai Havertz: "Yes, he was doing everything but couldn’t progress to the next step. We are all eager to have him back.

"He’s a player I really value for what he contributes to the team. I see his struggle. I believe his return will be a huge boost for us."

When asked for a general update, the manager responded: "Saliba - I can’t give you much today as we have another training session. He had a minor issue but I think it’s just a matter of days.

"Trossard? A matter of days. Havertz? A matter of weeks.Gabriel? He’s recovering well but it will also take weeks.."

Fight like beasts

Asked about Brentford, Arteta said it will be up to Arsenal to set the pace on the evening - with the backing of the home crowd.

He stated: "Brentford present different threats and challenges.

"Tomorrow at 7:30pm, it’s a chance to be at the Emirates, full of energy and determination to win.

"That’s the opportunity we have. Like beasts, everyone at the Emirates, to push hard and overcome Brentford. Vital, huge."

Arteta also commended the influence of Christian Norgaard, who joined from the Bees during the summer.

"From what I’ve seen on the pitch and all I heard about him as a leader," he said. "The moment I called him and spoke with him, he brought something unique to the squad."

Players stepping up

Before concluding, Arteta was pleased to highlight several players who have significantly impacted Arsenal’s excellent season so far.

The Gunners face Brentford tomorrow evening, sitting five points ahead at the top of the league.

On the Spanish duo David Raya and Mikel Merino, Arteta expressed: "He (Raya) is an outstanding goalkeeper.

"It’s a great story too, we tried to sign him much earlier and had to wait two more years. The journey we’ve had together has been incredible for us."

When asked if Merino’s goal-scoring has been surprising, Arteta said: "Not as a striker, certainly not. I knew he could offer much more than before. A player with that level of curiosity and hunger to win. The way he loves his craft. It’s hard to put limits on that."

Regarding whether Declan Rice is now fulfilling expectations, Arteta admits the midfielder still has potential to improve.

He explained, "I think he’s very close to what we believe he can bring to the club and the team, and how he can develop. He has been remarkably consistent."
