The 20-year-old player Lanquetin, currently playing for the Dutch club ADO Den Haag on loan from the Portuguese Liga team Estoril, was sentenced to three years in prison, with two years suspended, for causing serious involuntary injury and driving without a license or insurance. His driving license was also revoked for five years, and he must compensate the victims involved in the accident.
On October 9th, 2023, Lanquetin was driving his parents' car with a friend beside him when he collided with another vehicle at 140 kph near Le Fayel, a town more than 50 kilometers from Paris. The car Lanquetin struck ended up on the opposite side of the highway, causing a further collision.
According to the French news source Oise Hebdo, Farid Baho, who was driving the car that crashed into the vehicle hit by Lanquetin, suffered severe quadriplegia and major neurological damage, resulting in him being confined to a wheelchair for life.

At Compiègne High Court, Lanquetin admitted to driving without a license after leaving a party near Paris. Additionally, Lanquetin, who was 18 at the time, had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.30 g/l, tested positive for cannabis, and was found in possession of nitrous oxide, commonly known as 'laughing gas'.
The prosecution stated that the incident "was not accidental but stemmed from objectively reckless behavior" and found Lanquetin guilty of driving without a license, speeding, alcohol consumption, presence of cannabis in a confined space, lack of subsequent remorse, and causing severe and permanent physical harm.
Lanquetin and his friend, who held a valid driver’s license but was not driving, were heading to Paris when the accident occurred. "I was overconfident in my driving skills," Lanquetin explained in justification of his choice to drive the vehicle.
Suspended by ADO
ADO Den Haag, the club where Lanquetin spent the past four months on loan from Estoril, announced on Tuesday that they had suspended him "following recent reports of an incident in France in 2023" and would end the loan agreement. The club said they were unaware of the incident or court proceedings before signing Lanquetin.
Estoril have yet to make any statement regarding Lanquetin’s court case at the time of this report.
