Down 2-1 from the first leg, Sweden needed an improvement in recent performances to claim bronze in front of their home fans at Strawberry Arena in Solna.
However, not only did the first half end without them registering a shot on target, their strategy unraveled just before the 60th minute when Clara Mateo put France in front on the night and 3-1 on aggregate.
Nevertheless, Blagult rallied late in the match - six minutes before full time, Evelyn Ijeh equalized 1-1 on the night with her second goal for the national team, then Brighton's Rusul Kafaji scored in the 92nd minute to make it 2-1, sending the match into extra time.
Sweden made five substitutions during regular time to try to alter the outcome, leaving only one substitute for extra time, whereas France had four available.
These changes proved decisive, as Gago was brought on six minutes into extra time, and ten minutes later she scored the winning goal, with the match ending 2-2 on the night, and Les Bleues advancing 4-3 on aggregate.
Sweden have now gone five matches without a win, dating back to their exit in the quarter-finals of UEFA Women's EURO 2025.
