In a match where both teams combined for only two shots on target, the home side took the lead in the 23rd minute when the 17-year-old Udinese defender Matteo Palma reached the ball before Jonathan David on a Weston McKennie cross but ended up scoring an own goal.

Palma, an Italian youth international born in Berlin, committed a foul on McKennie in the 67th minute, resulting in a penalty that Manuel Locatelli successfully converted.

This match kicked off the round of 16 in the Italian Cup.

Napoli and Inter Milan will play home matches on Wednesday. On Thursday, reigning champions Bologna face Parma at home, while Serie A leaders Milan travel to Lazio.

The final fixture, between Roma and Torino, is scheduled for January 13.
