Pep Guardiola stated that Man City will pursue Arsenal right up to the final moment, after Erling Haaland hit the 100-goal mark in the Premier League during a frantic game versus Fulham.
A thrilling 5-4 victory over Fulham brought Manchester City back strongly into the title race, but what made Pep Guardiola most confident was not the winning goal, but Haaland’s “unbelievable” form. The Norwegian striker just reached 100 Premier League goals in only 111 matches - an achievement that even Guardiola admitted exceeded all expectations.
“If someone told me he would score 100 goals in 111 games, I would ask: ‘Are you sure?’ These numbers are crazy. Absolutely crazy,” Pep said excitedly after the match. Haaland’s strike to open the scoring against Fulham set the tone for the wild game, where City led 5-1 before nearly losing the win in the final minutes.
Despite securing all three points, Pep admitted he “couldn’t really enjoy” the match: “5-1 yes, but 5-4 I was checking the clock more than watching the game. That’s the Premier League. There are always games where you lead 3-0 and end up winning 3-2. We have to get used to that.”
This hard-fought win helps City reduce the gap to Arsenal to just two points, but Guardiola emphasized the race is still very long. “Arsenal are very strong and solid. We have to prepare ourselves mentally because it will be tough. But the Premier League is long and I have enough experience to fight until the end.”
Not only praising Haaland, Guardiola also complimented the team’s composure under pressure during the chaotic final phase. Fulham suddenly surged back strongly, with goals from Iwobi and a double from Chukwueze that stunned Etihad for over 10 minutes at the end. Only Josko Gvardiol’s goal-line clearance preserved City’s victory.
Meanwhile, Fulham’s coach Marco Silva expressed regret but pride: “The players’ reaction was incredible. Maybe we deserved a fifth goal.”
As the race heats up, Pep Guardiola sends a clear message to Arsenal: Man City will not give up. His team has won titles even when trailing in January or February. Persistence, combined with Haaland’s spectacular form, is why Guardiola believes in another comeback.
“The champion is the team that grows month by month. We will push ourselves, stay motivated and manage things better,” he confirmed.
With Haaland as the focal point and Guardiola’s vast experience, Man City is sending a clear signal: Arsenal should prepare for a long battle with no room for mistakes.
