Fabrizio Romano delivers a strong blow to Real Madrid

Fabrizio Romano confirms there is no possibility for Real Madrid to re-sign Nico Paz in the January transfer window.

Real Madrid currently holds control over the future of the "Como prodigy," and many reports have suggested the Royal Club will attempt to bring him back during the winter transfer period.

Real Madrid’s recent decline in form has caused them to lose the top spot to Barcelona and put coach Xabi Alonso at risk of dismissal. This situation has fueled rumors about Nico Paz rejoining the team. However, Fabrizio Romano has denied these claims.

According to Romano, there is no chance for Paz to leave Como in January. The reputable transfer journalist explains that Real Madrid does not have a mid-season buy-back clause—they can only activate it in the summer—and Paz himself wants to complete the full season with Como. The 20-year-old is satisfied with Como’s current performance competing at the top of Serie A, and he does not want to disrupt the team ahead of the World Cup.

However, Romano reveals that the likelihood of Paz returning to Real Madrid at the end of the season is very high.

Paz joined Como in 2024 after their promotion from Serie B, for a fee of 6 million Euros. Real Madrid included three buy-back clauses in the deal, allowing them to re-sign Paz for 9 million Euros in 2025, 10 million Euros in 2026, and 11 million Euros in 2027.

Nonetheless, by 2026, Real Madrid will likely have to pay a much higher fee, as Como rejected a 70 million Euro offer from Tottenham last summer and therefore has every right to demand a bigger compensation.

Just over a year after joining Como, Paz’s value has soared to nearly 100 million Euros thanks to his explosive performances in Serie A.

Under the guidance of coach Cesc Fabregas, who is also emerging as a promising manager, Paz has become a sensation in the league. Playing as a number 10 in a 4-2-3-1 formation, the attacking midfielder has created a buzz in Serie A.

With an exceptionally skillful left foot, smooth technique, creativity, elegance, and outstanding vision, Paz possesses all the qualities of a future “Galactico.” This season, he has scored 5 goals and provided 5 assists for Como in Serie A.

Last season, Paz was voted the best Under-23 player in Serie A after contributing to 15 goals (6 goals, 9 assists) across 35 matches.

Fabregas said last season: “He is a special player and needs the freedom to express himself. We must not turn him into an emotionless machine.”
