Coach Enzo Maresca commended Chelsea’s determination after their 2-0 triumph against Everton, highlighting Cole Palmer and Malo Gusto as the standout players.
After the 2-0 victory over Everton in the 16th round of the Premier League, Coach Enzo Maresca held an emotional press conference at Stamford Bridge. The Italian manager expressed satisfaction with his players' performance and delivered a strong message to The Blues’ supporters.
Two first-half goals by Cole Palmer and Malo Gusto secured Chelsea all three points, ending a winless streak this month. Maresca praised the team’s spirit after what he described as “the toughest 48 hours” since arriving in London.
“Everton is in good form, so today’s victory is very important. We fully deserved this result. I am extremely proud of the players; they overcame a lot of pressure and criticism to win,” Maresca stated.
The 45-year-old coach especially praised Cole Palmer, who scored the opening goal and continues to assert his influence on the team’s play:
“With Palmer on the pitch, Chelsea always perform better. He makes a difference. I just hope Palmer can maintain his fitness to keep helping the club and the national team.”
Additionally, Maresca encouraged Reece James and Malo Gusto, the two full-backs who impressed in the new tactical setup:
“Both Reece and Malo had to play like true midfielders today. They worked very hard, especially during a week when the team faced many squad difficulties.”
When asked about Thomas Tuchel’s presence in the stands during the match, Maresca smiled: “That’s a question for him. But if Palmer stays healthy, he will definitely have opportunities in any team.”
This victory helps Chelsea return to the top-tier race, while also bringing a positive atmosphere to the team after a period of heavy public pressure. Maresca affirmed: “I love Chelsea’s fans and I’m happy to see them share joy with the team. The whole squad will keep fighting for them.”
