(Football results) - PSG clinched an exciting 3-2 win away at Metz, battling hard to momentarily top the Ligue 1 standings.
Paris Saint-Germain achieved a crucial 3-2 triumph at Stade Saint-Symphorien, Metz’s home ground, allowing them to temporarily take first place in the Ligue 1 table. Although they did not dominate the match completely, coach Luis Enrique’s squad still demonstrated timely resilience, while Metz continued to sink deeper at the bottom after their fourth consecutive defeat.
Before the game, Metz had conceded the most goals in the league but maintained a fairly solid home defensive record. This was evident during the first 15 minutes when PSG struggled to find chances on goal.
It wasn’t until the 18th minute that the visitors had their first shot, but Gonçalo Ramos failed to beat goalkeeper Jonathan Fischer. Metz held firm for over half an hour before their defense was broken by a short corner routine. Lee delivered an accurate cross for Ramos to leap and head home, opening the scoring for PSG.
The goal that broke the deadlock allowed the visitors to play with more freedom. Just eight minutes later, Ibrahim Mbaye skillfully maneuvered down the left flank and crossed perfectly for Quentin Ndjantou to score his first goal for PSG, making it 2-0.
However, Metz did not collapse. In their very next attack, after Habib Diallo’s shot was blocked, Jessy Deminguet surged forward to deliver a precise one-touch finish from outside the box, cutting the deficit to 1-2.
In the second half, PSG continued to create chances, with Fischer repeatedly making impressive saves against Ramos and Ndjantou. Metz also fought back, as Diallo and Kouao threatened Matvei Safonov’s goal with dangerous shots. The turning point came from a swift PSG counterattack following a Metz corner. Désiré Doué sprinted forward and calmly finished to extend the lead to 3-1.
In the closing stages, PSG missed opportunities to seal the game when Mbaye hit the crossbar and Doué was denied by Fischer on the rebound. This wastefulness cost them as Giorgi Tsitaishvili scored to reduce the deficit to 2-3 for Metz in the 80th minute. Nevertheless, the home side could not create further surprises.
This win ended PSG’s inconsistent run and allowed them to temporarily claim the top spot in Ligue 1, while Metz set an unfortunate record with 15 straight losses against PSG in France’s top division.
