Amorim is confident he can lead Manchester United to the Premier League title! Comparing to Ferguson’s era is unfair, and he understands the legends' doubts.

Manchester United’s Class of ’92 legends Scholes and Nicky Butt recently publicly criticized current coach Rúben Amorim. Scholes was clear: "I think this coach simply doesn’t understand this club. It’s that straightforward. I just feel he’s not the right person."

Scholes elaborated: "United’s core lies in adventure and entertainment, everything else is secondary. The fans must be on their toes, ready to leap up. Wingers dribbling past opponents, shots on target, showcasing skills. But now, none of that exists. The club says they hired Omar Belada and Jason Wilcox from another club; they might be excellent in their fields, doing well, but they are not Manchester United. It lacks that feeling; they didn’t buy Manchester United players nor hire Manchester United coaches."

"Just watching Sporting Lisbon’s matches and seeing their three-center-back formation, I immediately dismiss it," Scholes added. "During Ferguson’s time, the team always played 4-4-1-1 or 4-4-2, which entertained the crowd. Amorim lacks that ability. Against West Ham, he switched to four defenders. In the past, when we led 1-0, the coach always said to push for a second, third, fourth goal."

Scholes also criticized Amorim for not using England midfielder Coby Meno. "I would advise him to leave. If Coby called me saying, ‘Chelsea is interested, what do you think?’ I’d say absolutely go. He’s only 20 and needs to move on. Even if Coby is brought on now, he won’t perform well because players need five to eight matches to find form. Amorim puts him on and then says, ‘I told you he’s no good.’ The management doesn’t understand the club; Coby’s treatment says it all. It’s normal he’s not playing; sometimes coaches just don’t like certain players."

Regarding the criticism he has received, Amorim expressed understanding because Manchester United is used to always winning and claiming titles. But the 40-year-old Portuguese emphasized that comparing the current team to Ferguson’s era is unfair.

"I think it’s normal. As Manchester United’s coach, our team hasn’t performed to the expected level, that’s a fact," Amorim said. "We should have earned more points, especially this season, so I naturally accept that. Sometimes people don’t see the full picture; they see the Manchester United they knew when living here — a top-level team always winning. So, it’s hard for them to accept the club is currently in this situation."

Amorim stated that the legends’ comments do not affect his coaching. "No, the issue is the results," he explained. "You can point out many problems; they have highlighted many areas we need to improve. But the most important thing is whether we win or not. As long as I win, even if I ride a horse to matches and play with only two defenders, everyone would praise me. The problem is, as a coach, my results aren’t good enough, and that’s a fact I accept. The only issue is: Manchester United isn’t winning, nor reaching the expected standards."

Amorim understands that Manchester United is under far more scrutiny now than when he was at Sporting Lisbon. "The situation here is completely different. We have the world’s best league, and football is highly followed here. After every press conference, I leave and have to do interviews — it’s a whole different world. At Sporting, because we kept winning, there were no problems. Wherever you keep winning, there won’t be issues. I understand that, and it’s fine."

Regarding the controversial treatment of Meno, Amorim responded: "About Coby, I talk about him almost every press conference. But sometimes, after matches, it’s even harder to speak. That’s always the case. For me, all players are equal. I know some of you really like certain players, and I trust them a lot too, but sometimes I have to make choices. We only use two midfielders in these games; that might change in the future. But Coby and Bruno Fernandes play the same position, and sometimes it’s really hard to take Bruno out of the team — that’s the only reason."

Amorim is confident he can lead Manchester United to success, and he is clear about what success means: "At our club, success means winning the Premier League; anything less is not acceptable."
