It has been revealed that Manchester United teammates suspect Bruno Fernandes is already considering leaving the club and is currently negotiating with Ralf Rangnick, while the club's leadership is unhappy with his public complaints.

As reported by UK’s talkSPORT radio, Manchester United’s dressing room colleagues believe that captain Bruno Fernandes, through his complaints in a Portuguese media interview about the club wanting him to leave, may be slowly preparing for his exit from the club.

Fernandes stated that the club’s board aimed to sell him to a Saudi Professional League team as early as this summer and openly admitted feeling hurt by this. It is said that within the Red Devils’ locker room, there is a general belief that this season could be Fernandes’ last at Old Trafford.

By revealing Manchester United’s true intention to cash in on him, Fernandes is crafting an image that he is not leaving for financial reasons, which might prevent many fans from accusing him of greed if he eventually departs. Therefore, in the interview, Fernandes repeatedly emphasized his loyalty and love for Manchester United, while also criticizing the club’s lack of competitiveness compared to rivals and some teammates’ apparent lack of affection for the club.

Besides the Portuguese media, Fernandes also disclosed in a conversation with Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand: “Obviously, I feel my time at the club hasn’t gone as I hoped because I definitely want to win titles, but I haven’t won as many trophies as I should and could have. I believe my contribution to the club has been very significant; I’m not demeaning other players’ efforts. I think I stayed loyal during our toughest times, and I want everyone at the club to understand that. I had other very good opportunities.”

Fernandes expressed the importance he places on loyalty: “I could have chosen a different path, one that would have brought more titles and higher recognition. Nowadays, people tend to judge players by the trophies they win. The perspective has changed; in the past, Totti was considered Italy’s best player despite having few trophies, and that didn’t stop him from becoming a legend at Roma. Such loyalty was common back then, like Totti at Roma, Giggs at Manchester United, and Maldini at AC Milan.”

Fernandes lamented: “People’s views on loyalty have changed. I had two chances to leave, but the club said they needed me, so I stayed to repay their trust. When I talked about winning trophies, I stayed at Manchester United because I believed I could still win titles here. If the club lacked ambition to reclaim championships and become the club it once was, I wouldn’t have stayed. But I know the club’s goal remains to return to the top, which is the level I want Manchester United to reach — the very reason I joined. So helping the team get back to the top is the only thing I want to do.”

In response, Rangnick and Manchester United’s senior management were clearly displeased, even reportedly surprised and angry. According to transfer expert Graeme Bailey citing sources on the UK media outlet TEAMtalk, the club’s owners and executives are “furious” about Fernandes’ statements.

They privately refuted Fernandes’ claims, with club officials firmly stating that they never invited bids from Saudi clubs such as Al Hilal, Al Nassr, or Al Ittihad. Instead, it was Fernandes’ agent who initiated contact with the oil-rich clubs.

Of course, both parties are tacitly aware of their true intentions, neither wanting to be the first to propose a transfer deal. Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that Fernandes will definitely not be on the market during the January window, but after next summer’s World Cup, his departure becomes less predictable and remains a possibility.

Romano explained: “If you ask me what will happen to Fernandes in 2026, I can say that as of January, things are very calm. So, currently, nothing urgent is happening, nothing has happened. Regarding the summer window, I will watch for Saudi interest because I think Saudi clubs might come back for Fernandes. From there, it depends on the player and Manchester United’s decisions. Let’s wait until around the World Cup to see.”

Saudi Arabia’s interest in Fernandes is an undisputed fact, Romano added: “I can assure you, as I have always told you, Fernandes has always been one of the targets for Saudi transfer operators. They will return. Rüdiger, Salah, and several other players are also sought after by Saudi clubs, and Fernandes is among them.”

Romano concluded: “So, let’s wait and see. From what I currently understand, no transfer rumors should arise in January. Manchester United and Fernandes do not intend to part ways mid-season; Fernandes is fully committed to Manchester United and truly loves the club. However, by summer, Saudi Arabia will try again to recruit him. Ultimately, it depends on the choice made by Fernandes and Manchester United.”

According to talkSPORT radio, Bundesliga club Bayern Munich is also among the teams eager to sign Fernandes. The Manchester United captain’s contract includes a £57 million release clause that can only be activated by foreign clubs, and Bayern is believed to have long admired him.

Fernandes’ contract with Manchester United runs until 2027, with an option for a one-year extension. However, as the Red Devils plan to rebuild their midfield, selling the 31-year-old Portuguese star could help raise significant transfer funds.
