Old Trafford is in turmoil following the sacking of Ruben Amorim, bringing Sir Alex Ferguson's prophecy about the team back into focus.
Ruben Amorim becomes the sixth coach to be fired at MU since the Sir Alex Ferguson era. Amorim's dismissal continues the period of instability at MU. At this moment, Sir Alex Ferguson's own prophecy about MU is being frequently mentioned.
In an interview with Press Box PR in December 2025, Sir Alex Ferguson made forecasts about the Red Devils' future. And those predictions remain accurate to this day.
“I remember when I first arrived at MU, Liverpool was at its peak. They were the biggest club, having won the Champions League four times and conquered numerous titles. But then it took them 31 years to win the English league again”, Sir Alex Ferguson stated.
“We (MU) are now in a similar situation. The club might need 10 or 11 more years for that cycle. Everything must be carefully planned, and we have to ensure better player recruitment than before”, he added.
“Amorim has a strong character, but this job is not easy”, the Scottish coach observed.
Ferguson's prophecy is proving true again as MU has to start over after firing Amorim. They spent nearly a year and a half on the three-center-back system that Amorim trusted, and now that system is likely the first thing to be changed.
MU is considered to have abandoned all efforts from the past 1.5 years and is starting fresh. MU's CEO, Omar Berrada, once revealed the club has a long-term plan aimed at winning the Premier League title by 2028, the year marking MU's 150th anniversary.
But given the current circumstances, it is hard to believe MU will achieve this goal. While other clubs are getting stronger and the Premier League competition is becoming tougher, MU remaining stagnant or even regressing compared to previous seasons makes this target increasingly distant.
MU and Liverpool share the record for 20 English league titles each. However, since former coach Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, the "Red Devils" have not returned to the top of English football. They also haven't won the Champions League since 2008.
