BREAKING: Vietnamese-French striker born in 2008 completes Vietnamese citizenship procedures

Vietnamese football is broadening its resources with French-Vietnamese player Yann Vyxienh currently pursuing Vietnamese nationality, targeting chances to compete in youth squads.

As part of efforts to strengthen youth teams, Vietnamese football is increasingly focusing on overseas Vietnamese players trained in Europe, particularly in France. One of the notable emerging talents is Yann Vyxienh, a player born in 2008, currently playing for the U19 team of Quevilly-Rouen club.

Yann Vyxienh, born in 2008, stands 1.78 meters tall and can play flexibly in various attacking roles such as attacking midfielder, second striker, or center forward. Being trained in the French football environment, which emphasizes both individual skills and tactical awareness, has helped this young player quickly demonstrate qualities suited for modern football.

Quevilly-Rouen competes in the Championnat National, the third tier of French football. This league is considered a competitive setting for young players to gain experience and gradually improve their skills before progressing to higher levels. Yann Vyxienh’s presence in this club’s U19 team highlights his promising development potential.

Regarding his background, Yann Vyxienh’s paternal grandparents and father are of Vietnamese origin, while his mother is French. The surname Vyxienh originated when his grandfather moved to Laos, adopting a local version of the name before returning to Vietnam. Currently, Yann’s family retains his grandmother’s birth certificate issued in Vietnam, an important document for completing legal procedures.

According to shared information, Yann Vyxienh’s family, along with a representative company, is working on securing Vietnamese citizenship for him. The goal is to enable Yann to be eligible for Vietnam’s youth national teams, starting with the U20 squad in the near future.

At the end of 2025, Yann Vyxienh returned to Vietnam and trained with the Hanoi Police U21 team for three sessions. This was seen as an initial step to help the young player get accustomed to the domestic football environment.

At a very young age, with a solid training foundation in France and a strong desire to connect with Vietnamese football, Yann Vyxienh is expected to be a highly promising option for Vietnam’s youth teams in the future.
