Coach Zidane speaks candidly about the possibility of returning to Real

Zinedine Zidane has already given clear signals about making a comeback to football amid numerous rumors linking him with Real Madrid.

Earlier this week, less than 24 hours after the loss to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final, Real Madrid decided to part ways with coach Xabi Alonso. Alonso himself posted a personal message, stating that having the chance to coach Real Madrid was a great honor.

The Royal Club also confirmed that Alvaro Arbeloa will take over as head coach of the first team, having previously played for the Spanish giants during his playing career.

Meanwhile, names like Jurgen Klopp and Zinedine Zidane have been mentioned as potential candidates for the head coach position at the Bernabeu stadium.

Zidane previously managed Real Madrid from 2016 to 2018 before returning to the club in 2019. The French tactician left the team for the second time in 2021 and has not taken any coaching roles since then.

In November 2025, Zidane was asked about the possibility of returning to football. According to GOAL, he revealed: “That will happen soon. Very soon.”

Zidane has also been strongly linked to the position of head coach of the French national team, as Didier Deschamps is expected to step down after the 2026 World Cup. Speaking about the chance to lead the national team, Zidane stated: “I want to become the head coach of France one day. I will definitely return to coaching.”

Since leaving Real Madrid, Zinedine Zidane has not resumed any coaching role, but his status among the world’s top managers remains intact. The mark he left at the Bernabeu speaks volumes about his value and influence.

During his tenure at Real Madrid, Zidane helped the Royal Club dominate Europe with three consecutive Champions League titles, alongside two La Liga trophies and numerous other important cups. Although Real Madrid is the only team he has managed, these achievements clearly demonstrate Zidane’s tactical prowess, ability to manage the dressing room, and his class as a coach.
