Vietnam U19's number one goalkeeper undergoes ligament injury surgery

Leaders of the Vietnam Football Federation visit U19 national futsal player Đoàn Tuấn Phong after his recent surgery.

On the afternoon of January 14, Deputy General Secretary of the Vietnam Football Federation Nguyễn Thanh Hà, along with representatives from various departments, visited and encouraged goalkeeper Đoàn Tuấn Phong of the Vietnam U19 futsal team. The player had just undergone knee ligament surgery at Vinmec Smart City International General Hospital (Hanoi).

Đoàn Tuấn Phong is one of the promising young goalkeepers in Vietnamese futsal, having won the Best Goalkeeper award at the 2025 National U20 Futsal Championship while playing for the U20 Thái Sơn Bắc Club. At the national team level, Tuấn Phong is the first-choice goalkeeper for the Vietnam U19 futsal team competing in the 2025 Southeast Asian U19 Futsal Championship, the tournament’s inaugural edition held in Thailand in December 2025.

During this tournament, Tuấn Phong unfortunately sustained a knee anterior cruciate ligament injury in the semifinal match against U19 Indonesia, which required surgery. According to the medical team’s assessment, the goalkeeper born in 2007 needs at least six months to recover function before returning to training and competition.

On behalf of the Vietnam Football Federation, Deputy General Secretary Nguyễn Thanh Hà kindly inquired about Tuấn Phong’s health, offered encouragement, and urged him to maintain strong determination, strictly follow the treatment plan, and be patient during rehabilitation to return to the field soon. On this occasion, the Federation also expressed gratitude to the Vinmec Health System, especially the team of experts and the Vinmec Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center, for successfully performing the surgery on the U19 futsal player.

Deputy General Secretary Nguyễn Thanh Hà affirmed that the Vietnam Football Federation always cares, supports, and will provide necessary directions and assistance to ensure the best conditions for Đoàn Tuấn Phong’s treatment and recovery, while hoping the young goalkeeper stays optimistic and returns to competition soon to continue contributing to Vietnamese futsal.

Regarding the treatment of injuries for futsal players, in August 2025, national futsal team goalkeeper Hồ Văn Ý also underwent anterior cruciate ligament surgery on his right knee at Vinmec Hospital and is currently actively undergoing rehabilitation. This demonstrates the effective collaboration of the Vinmec sports medical system in caring for and protecting the health of Vietnamese futsal players.
