Active Bundesliga defender moves to Chinese Super League; Beijing Guoan to form dual foreign center-back partnership

After the Chinese Super League ended its golden-spending era, truthfully, it is quite difficult to directly poach players from the top five European leagues, but Beijing Guoan is on the verge of signing an active Bundesliga defender.

According to reports, Beijing Guoan has finalized the signing of 28-year-old Portuguese defender Guilherme Ramos from Hamburg, a newly promoted Bundesliga club this season, and the player is expected to come to China to link up with the Beijing Guoan squad.

Guilherme Ramos developed through Sporting CP’s youth academy but never appeared for their first team. He has played for Mafra, Farense, Bielefeld, Santa Clara, and Hamburg. During his time at Hamburg, Ramos has featured in 36 matches across all competitions, scoring 2 goals.

Now 28 years old, Guilherme Ramos stands 1.91 meters tall, is right-footed, and primarily plays as a center-back. With only five months left on his contract at Hamburg, his transfer value is estimated at 700,000 euros by Transfermarkt. This season in the Bundesliga, Ramos has made 8 appearances, all as a substitute, totaling just 40 minutes on the pitch, making him a fringe player at Hamburg. After signing Ramos, Beijing Guoan will create one of the rare CSL teams with two foreign center-backs. Even as a substitute in the Bundesliga, as long as the player maintains a professional attitude, his ability is more than enough to compete in the Chinese Super League and the AFC Champions League.
