Man United has officially announced Casemiro’s exit ahead of time, but the renewal process for the experienced 32-year-old English center-back Harry Maguire is also encountering difficulties. Maguire’s contract ends this season, and similar to Casemiro, he impressed in last Sunday’s derby after missing two months due to a thigh injury and returning to the starting eleven. Carrick mentioned that Maguire’s future remains uncertain, and discussions will take place in the next few months.

“I see this as part of the mid-season phase involving contract matters. January is the period for these negotiations, and as the season nears its conclusion, decisions regarding contracts and related issues will naturally be made in a timely manner at the appropriate moment.”
According to British media reports, the club has informed Maguire’s agent that they will not offer a new contract with a two-year term and a weekly wage of £150,000; only a one-year deal at £120,000 per week is on the table. Maguire currently earns £190,000 weekly, and his contract expires at the end of this season. The one-year extension option was already used last year, so if no agreement on renewal is reached when the current contract ends, separation from Manchester United is inevitable.
Maguire’s time at Manchester United has officially entered its final five months. Several Serie A clubs have attempted to sign him during the winter transfer window, but since Carrick took charge, he has assured the experienced defender of continued trust, leading Maguire to decide to stay at Old Trafford and publicly praise the changes Carrick has brought. However, the club’s board remains cautious about Maguire’s future beyond this season.
Having joined Manchester United for £80 million, Maguire has served the club for seven years, ranking just behind Luke Shaw and Diogo Dalot in seniority, and he holds strong affection for the Red Devils. Although he is now free to negotiate with foreign clubs, he intends to focus on Manchester United until the season concludes.
“Maguire wants to remain at Manchester United,” said Laurie Whitwell from The Athletic. “He is now able to negotiate with overseas clubs. Manchester United activated a clause in his contract last summer, so a renewal will require fresh negotiations, and the salary will be lower.”

However, the renewal disagreement between Maguire and Manchester United is not as severe as Casemiro’s, and there is still a possibility of finding a compromise. Whitwell predicts: “I believe Maguire’s renewal is achievable. He possesses unique skills within the squad, and set pieces have become very important; in this area, he plays a crucial role in both penalty boxes. I think they should be able to reach an agreement on this, but I expect they will wait until the season ends to make a decision.”
If an agreement on Maguire’s renewal with Manchester United cannot be reached, he will not lack suitors. According to Football Insider, Everton, managed by David Moyes, is interested in him. Moyes previously tried to sign Maguire for £30 million while coaching West Ham, and the club might also pursue Manchester City’s Stones on a free transfer.
Former Manchester United debut scout Mike Brown said: “Everton would consider Maguire if he leaves Manchester United on a free transfer; many Premier League clubs would want to sign him. Although his age might raise questions, Everton needs a new center-back, and on the free transfer market, Maguire is undoubtedly one of the best options, capable of attracting anyone.”
He added: “Moyes is a big fan of Maguire and originally wanted to bring him to West Ham, but for various reasons, it didn’t happen. Now might be the right time. It depends on whether Manchester United decide to let Maguire go, but if they choose not to renew his contract, Everton should be one of the clubs waiting in line.”
Additionally, according to TEAMtalk, West Ham and Napoli are also interested in Maguire. Of course, West Ham must first secure Premier League survival to compete for him; they currently sit 18th, five points adrift of safety.

Maguire’s performance in the Manchester Derby also earned support from former England defender John Terry, who backed him to return to the national team under coach Tuchel for this summer’s World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Maguire participated in all matches for England in the 2018 and 2022 World Cups and performed well in the 2020 European Championship. However, due to injury, he missed the 2024 European Championship held in Germany. Since Tuchel took over England in January 2025, Maguire has not been selected for the squad.
