Vietnam futsal team holds its first training session in Indonesia

Right after landing in Indonesia, the Vietnam futsal team began their first practice session to get used to the climate and the venue, as well as to relieve stiffness after the extended travel.

The training took place at 6:00 PM on January 24 at the sports hall of Negeri Jakarta University, which is quite a distance from Le Meridien Hotel — the team’s accommodation — requiring nearly an hour of travel even with smooth traffic. According to the organizers’ arrangement, the team trained for 80 minutes.

The session mainly focused on recovery, helping players regain balance after more than 10 hours of travel. Besides relaxation exercises, coach Diego Giustozzi had the players practice some attacking scenarios and goal finishing, as well as revisiting tactical drills including the power-play strategy.

Regarding the first training in Jakarta, coach Diego Giustozzi stated: “This session was light because the players just went through a long trip. I wanted them to exercise moderately to recover and reinforce some essential professional elements.”

The Argentine coach also expressed satisfaction with the tournament’s organization and the team’s preparation work: “I have participated in three Asian Futsal Championships in a row in Kuwait, Thailand, and now Indonesia. The AFC always provides good conditions for participating teams, so there is nothing to complain about. I also want to thank the Vietnam Football Federation for facilitating everything during our preparation.”

Speaking about the short preparation period before the opening match, coach Diego Giustozzi shared: “Actually, we have been preparing for quite some time and the players fully understand what needs to be done. The last two friendlies against Afghanistan were very useful, helping us better assess the team’s strength and capabilities. Currently, the team has 8 players making their debut at the Asian Futsal Championship finals, so this is a young but promising squad. I believe the players will perform well.”

According to the plan, the Vietnam futsal team will have their second training session at 5:00 PM on January 25 at the tournament’s official arena to familiarize themselves with the playing surface and the match time for the opening game of the 2026 Asian Futsal Championship finals.
