Right after the suspension was removed, the Malaysian naturalized players promptly resumed training with their respective clubs.
FIFA and CAS recently suspended the 12-month playing ban on seven Malaysian naturalized players including Facundo Garcés, Rodrigo Holgado, Imanol Machuca, João Figueiredo, Gabriel Palmero, Jon Irazabal, and Héctor Hevel. This is a temporary ruling while CAS conducts its investigation and announces the final decision.
According to updates, immediately after the ban was temporarily lifted, the Malaysian naturalized players returned to training. The trio João Figueiredo, Jon Irazabal, and Héctor Hevel took the field with their teammates at Johor Darul Ta'zim on January 27. On the training ground, these three players were seen happily joking around after nearly four months of being banned from playing.
Furthermore, if their fitness and form are assured, all three could feature in the match between JDT and Shan United on January 29 as part of the Shopee Cup.
Meanwhile, central defender Facundo Garcés has also resumed training. On the afternoon of January 27, Deportivo Alavés (Spain) official website published a special article welcoming his return.
"During this temporary period, Garcés is permitted to carry out his professional duties as usual"the Alavés club stated on their official website. "Therefore, Deportivo Alavés confirms that the player will immediately rejoin team training."
Meanwhile, the duo Palmero and Holgado expressed their joy over the temporary lifting of the ban. On Instagram, Holgado wrote: “When you least expect it, the sun appears and everything will be fine. No storm lasts forever.” Palmero posted a brief message: “We are back.”
With the ban lifted, these seven players now have a full chance to return and play for the Malaysian national team in the match against Vietnam on March 31.
