Legend Emmanuel Petit considers Bryan Mbeumo a “bargain” for Man United and the key piece Arsenal lacks for Mikel Arteta to claim the Premier League title.
Former star Emmanuel Petit thinks the summer signing of Manchester United, Bryan Mbeumo, is the type of player Arsenal still need to confidently surge ahead in the race for the Premier League crown this season.
Under the guidance of coach Mikel Arteta, Arsenal is having an impressive season. After 23 matches, the “Gunners” top the Premier League table, have reached the Carabao Cup semi-finals, the FA Cup fourth round, and have won all 7 Champions League games. However, their 2-3 loss to Manchester United last weekend sparked familiar concerns: Arsenal might lose their advantage at a crucial stage.
Arteta has finished as runner-up for three consecutive seasons, and with Manchester City and Aston Villa only 4 points behind, doubts have arisen about Arsenal’s ability to “secure the title.” Nevertheless, most former players still trust that the North London club has the strength to triumph, but Emmanuel Petit insists Arteta needs an extra special attacking player.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Petit did not hesitate to name Bryan Mbeumo. “I clearly saw that in the match against Arsenal. Mbeumo was the first player who came to mind,” the former French midfielder said. “He moves very intelligently, shows creativity in front of goal, and has excellent playmaking skills.”
According to Petit, what impressed him most about Mbeumo is not his physique or strength. “I like his work rate, attitude, both technically and mentally. But most importantly, his movement and constant link-up with teammates. He brings something unique to the attack,” he analyzed.
Petit even called Manchester United’s acquisition of Mbeumo a “steal,” affirming that a player like him would help Arsenal overcome difficult moments in the title race.
In fact, Arsenal is the second-highest scoring team in the Premier League this season, despite their top scorer Viktor Gyokeres only having 5 goals. Legend Patrick Vieira acknowledges this as a concern. “You always want your number 9 to score consistently and reach double digits,” Vieira told Sky Sports.
However, Vieira also emphasized that Arsenal’s position at the top of the league shows their impressive collective strength. He believes that to improve attacking efficiency, Arsenal needs to get the ball into the penalty area more often, creating better chances for forwards to capitalize on — a factor that could decide the fate of the Premier League title race this season.
