AFC makes an unexpected move regarding the Football Association of Malaysia

AFC will directly assist FAM in restructuring its executive body after the entire Executive Committee resigned, to ensure Malaysia’s football activities continue without disruption.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) will be directly involved in supporting the management and operations of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) following the immediate resignation of all FAM Executive Committee members.

This information was confirmed by AFC Secretary General, Datuk Seri Windsor Paul John, during a press conference held after the fifth meeting of the FAM Special Committee for the 2025–2029 term, which took place at Wisma FAM headquarters (Kuala Lumpur).

According to Mr. Windsor, AFC’s intervention comes at FAM’s formal request, aiming to comprehensively assess governance, management, and operational mechanisms within the organization. A dedicated AFC task force will be sent to Malaysia to review, identify weaknesses, and spot gaps in the current management system.

“We need to clearly identify existing problems and the gaps compared to modern governance standards of football federations. From there, AFC will provide recommendations and develop new, more suitable criteria,” Mr. Windsor stated.

He also mentioned that a working group led by AFC Deputy Secretary General, Mr. Vahid Kerdani, along with independent consultants, will conduct a detailed evaluation before finalizing a comprehensive report. This report is expected to be presented at the upcoming FAM Congress for feedback and approval.

During the transition period, FAM’s operations will continue as usual. AFC has agreed to temporarily delegate executive authority to FAM’s Secretary General and Treasurer, especially to ensure financial and administrative matters remain uninterrupted.

“This decision fully complies with FAM’s statutes. When the Executive Committee is dissolved, the procedure allows the Secretary General and Treasurer to assume executive roles to maintain stable operations,” Mr. Windsor emphasized.

Additionally, an internal management team consisting of heads of FAM’s specialized departments will be formed to assist with daily operations and maintain close communication and coordination with FIFA and other related football organizations while the restructuring process is underway.
