Captain Manh Dung wants to guide the young players of the Vietnam futsal team to keep progressing.
The goal scored by Vietnam futsal team captain Nguyen Manh Dung just before halftime in the opening match of Group B against Kuwait at the AFC Futsal Asian Cup 2026 was the turning point that secured the win for his team. This goal came at a moment when the team’s morale was starting to drop after Kuwait scored their third goal in the 19th minute — following Vietnam’s equalizer from 2-0.
That goal boosted the Southeast Asian team’s spirit, and Manh Dung went on to score a second goal, leading his teammates to dominate the second half, finishing the match with a 5-4 victory in favor of the Vietnam futsal team.
“Scoring two goals was a personal highlight for me, but the overall victory was due to all the players of the Vietnam futsal team,” the 29-year-old player said. “I am very happy with our first three points and that the whole team followed the head coach Diego Giustozzi’s plan.”
Manh Dung plays for Thai Son Nam, the current champion of the Vietnam National Futsal League and the most successful futsal club in the country. Although he is very experienced, the current Vietnam national futsal team includes many players making their debut.
“They are still young, so our style of play is inconsistent, with ups and downs,” captain Manh Dung explained. “And I think I was among them in the first match.” Despite the lack of experience, Manh Dung believes his teammates have the potential to achieve great things.
“Our young players show confidence, good spirit, and their skills are improving. As captain, I encourage them to stay fully focused and treat every match like a final. I do my best to support and motivate my teammates on the Vietnam futsal team to play confidently and realize their full potential.”
