Captain Mạnh Dũng was pleased with his brace in the match against Kuwait during the opening round of the 2026 AFC Futsal Championship.
In the opening match of the 2026 AFC Futsal Championship, the Vietnam national team staged a dramatic comeback to win 5-4 against Kuwait, gaining an advantage in their quest to qualify for the quarterfinals.
In an interview with AFC after the match, captain Mạnh Dũng, who scored twice, shared: "Scoring two goals was my personal moment of brilliance, but the overall victory came from the whole team,” he said. “I am very happy with the first three points and that the entire team followed the head coach’s (Diego Giustozzi) plan.”
Captain Mạnh Dũng currently plays for Thai Son Nam Club, the reigning champions of the Vietnamese National Futsal League and the most successful futsal club in Vietnam’s history.
In this tournament, alongside experienced players, coach Diego Giustozzi also gave opportunities to many young talents. Regarding the squad, Mạnh Dũng said: “They are still young, so our playing style is inconsistent, with ups and downs,”he shared.
Despite their lack of experience, Mạnh Dũng believes his teammates are capable of achieving great things.
“Our young players show confidence, good spirit, and their skills are improving. As captain, I encourage them to focus 100% and treat every match as a final (of the tournament).”
“I try my best to support and motivate them to play confidently and reach their full potential,”Mạnh Dũng concluded.
At 13:00 today, January 29, the Vietnam futsal team will face Lebanon in their second match before taking on their "big rival" Thailand on January 31.
