The Indonesian Futsal Federation has formally submitted a bid to host the 2028 Futsal World Cup, marking a step toward fulfilling the archipelago’s aspirations.
The Indonesian Futsal Federation (FFI) confirmed that it has sent its bid documents to FIFA to request hosting rights for the 2028 FIFA Futsal World Cup. According to FFI President Michael Victor Sianipar, the application has been submitted and is currently “awaiting FIFA’s evaluation,” as Indonesia plans to use its role as host of the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup as a preparatory stage to demonstrate its organizational capabilities.
This move reflects Indonesia’s long-term ambitions, aligning with the government and PSSI’s strategy to elevate futsal, aiming to become a new powerhouse in Asia and make a mark on the global stage.
Speaking to the media, Michael Victor Sianipar stated that Indonesia has submitted the bid and is awaiting FIFA’s assessment process, while expressing hope that a smooth execution of the 2026 Asian Cup will enhance their standing with the world football governing body.
“We have officially submitted our bid. Now, FIFA is responsible for the evaluation. We believe that successfully hosting the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Championship will be the strongest proof that Indonesia is ready to host the 2028 FIFA Futsal World Cup.”.
Regarding FIFA, the international futsal calendar for 2025–2028 has set the 2028 Futsal World Cup to take place from October 7 to October 29, 2028. This timeline is crucial for candidate hosts to plan infrastructure, operations, and commercial aspects for a tournament lasting over three weeks.
The message from Jakarta is quite clear: success at the 2026 Asian tournament will serve as “living proof” of their ambition to step onto the world stage in 2028. Indonesia has been confirmed by AFC as the host for the 2026 AFC Futsal Asian Cup after the AFC Executive Committee approved recommendations from technical departments.
According to AFC’s information system, the 2026 Asian Cup qualifiers will be held in a centralized format from September 20 to September 24, 2025; teams will compete for spots in the final tournament alongside host Indonesia.
For Indonesia, this “test” goes beyond venue quality to include the operational system: security, transportation, hotels, training schedules, broadcasting, medical services, fan experience, and the ability to maintain competition standards throughout the event. These are the key areas FIFA usually considers as the backbone when selecting hosts for major tournaments.
