Following the 2-0 win over Lebanon in the second round of Group B at the 2026 Asian Futsal Championship, head coach Diego Giustozzi shared his contentment with Vietnam’s futsal team’s performance and determination, while stressing the need to promptly shift attention to the upcoming game.
The Vietnam futsal team continued to show impressive form in Group B of the 2026 Asian Futsal Championship finals by securing a 2-0 win over Lebanon, earning 6 points from two matches and keeping a strong chance of qualifying for the quarterfinals.
Regarding the victory against Lebanon, coach Diego Giustozzi stated that this match was completely different from their previous encounters. “The opponent presented new challenges. We actively applied pressure, controlled possession, and at times played quite well. In the early minutes, the players stayed calm in the final phase, but later lacked precision in decisive passes and finishing,” he said.
The Argentine strategist affirmed his happiness with the team's overall performance, especially given the less-than-ideal playing conditions. “It was a tough match, and the pitch wasn’t fully suited to our style. However, after two games, the team secured full 6 points. That is a very positive outcome.”
Comparing the two wins against Kuwait and Lebanon, coach Diego Giustozzi noted that each game had its own characteristics: “Kuwait played direct confrontation, while Lebanon defended deep and organized tightly. This wasn't our preferred style of match, but the most important thing was the victory. The next game will be different, taking place in an indoor arena with a different pitch, more typical of futsal, so we need to quickly focus on the next challenge.”
Speaking about the red card incident, coach Diego Giustozzi shared his personal view: “In my opinion, it wasn’t a red card but just a normal foul, maybe the referee didn’t see clearly. Nevertheless, the decision was made and we have to accept it. The positive point is that the team defended very well while playing with one less player, maintaining the goal in a 3 against 4 situation, which is very important.”
Assessing the defensive system, the head coach of the Vietnam futsal team said he was pleased with the stability and organization of his players. “Lebanon did not attack directly much, but we intercepted well and maintained a reasonable team formation distance. If we had capitalized on opportunities better, the score could have been higher. However, the most important thing remains the 3 points and focusing on the next match.”
After the match, player Đinh Công Viên also expressed happiness that the Vietnam futsal team won both of their first two matches. “These two victories gave the whole team great confidence and an advantage in the race for the top spot in the group. Lebanon played tight defense, often organizing a low block, which made things difficult for us. But the entire team was patient and made good use of chances to achieve a favorable result, aiming to control our fate in the final round,” Công Viên said.
