Jurgen Klopp is set to make a comeback at Liverpool after a period away, drawing significant attention from fans at Anfield.
It has been confirmed that Jurgen Klopp will return to Liverpool on March 28, joining the coaching staff of the Reds' legends team for a friendly match against Borussia Dortmund. The German manager will serve as an assistant to Kenny Dalglish, marking his first visit back to Anfield since leaving the club in summer 2024.
During nearly nine years in charge at Liverpool, Klopp left a profound impact by restoring the club to Europe's elite. He led The Reds to Premier League, Champions League, Club World Cup titles, among many other trophies, while building a team rich in identity and fighting spirit.
Klopp parted ways with Anfield due to exhaustion after enduring intense pressure for a long time. Liverpool subsequently appointed Arne Slot as head coach, hoping to maintain the legacy Klopp left behind. Klopp himself moved into the role of Global Football Director at Red Bull, stepping away temporarily from coaching duties.
Klopp’s upcoming return comes at a time when Liverpool is struggling this season. Although Slot helped the team win the Premier League in his first season, the Reds have since declined, currently sitting sixth and 14 points behind Arsenal, increasing pressure on the Dutch coach.
The legends match against Dortmund holds special significance as it is another former club of Klopp’s. Alongside Dalglish and Klopp, the coaching staff includes Ian Rush and John Aldridge. All proceeds from the match will support community funds for both Liverpool and Dortmund.
Despite rumors that Klopp might return as Liverpool manager or be targeted by Real Madrid, these possibilities are considered unlikely. Klopp is believed to be content with his current role and not ready to resume full-time coaching, making his March return more of an emotional gesture.
