Liverpool’s new right-back Furlong has suffered another injury, prompting Slot to seek a replacement who is likewise a Dutch international. According to top reporter Ornstein, Liverpool intends to loan the Dutch right-back Hateboer from Premier League Sunderland during the winter window. Hateboer is a Dutch international defender owned by Bundesliga club Leipzig, currently on loan at Sunderland, with negotiations underway to bring him to Anfield.
It is reported that Sunderland has agreed to let Hateboer leave. Hateboer and Slot share not only Dutch nationality but also a three-season working history at Feyenoord in the Eredivisie, forming a mentor-mentee relationship.

Hateboer came through Feyenoord’s youth academy and transferred to Leipzig in the summer of 2024 for €20 million. Last summer, he was loaned out to Sunderland.

Hateboer is 25 years old, 1.84 meters tall, right-footed, and capable of playing right-back, center-back, and defensive midfield. His contract with Leipzig runs until 2029, with a market value estimated at €20 million by Transfermarkt. This Premier League season, he has appeared 17 times, starting 10 matches, totaling 972 minutes on the pitch.
