Right from the opening whistle, the two teams engaged in a back-and-forth battle. Indonesia opened the scoring first in the 11th minute of the first half when Ishyfadya capitalized on a turnover in the Australian half to finish precisely. However, Holder quickly leveled the match with a powerful long-range strike from midfield, setting the score at 1-1 before the break.
In the second half, the match grew even more tense. Indonesia regained the lead thanks to a sharp counter-attack and a skillful chip shot by Bangun. Nevertheless, Australia demonstrated resilience by equalizing again at 2-2, also from a Holder free-kick. The ball hit the crossbar, then deflected off the Indonesian goalkeeper's head into the net, to the dismay of the archipelago's team.

From a familiar sideline set-piece, Camilleri connected with an extremely difficult shot; the ball hit the crossbar and bounced down behind the goal line, securing a 3-2 victory in the final seconds of the second extra period.
