Vietnam's head coach directly points out the reason for the heavy defeat to Thailand in the semifinal

Coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang offered noteworthy comments following the 2-4 defeat against Thailand in the 2026 ASEAN Women's Futsal semifinal.

The Vietnamese women's futsal team failed to overcome host Thailand, losing 2-4 in the 2026 ASEAN Women's Futsal Championship semifinal, thus advancing to the bronze medal match against the Indonesian women's futsal team.

Head coach Nguyen Dinh Hong gave a post-match interview: "First, I want to congratulate the Thai national team. I admit it was a difficult match, even though Vietnam taking an early lead was a very good opportunity. However, the turning point came in the second half when we fielded new players, and some key players were injured.

Coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang admitted this was a very tough match for Vietnam

This may have affected the team's overall performance and led to some mistakes. But I want to view it as a learning experience, because it's good for new players to get more playing time.

As for Thailand, I think they have their own strengths. Similar to many other teams with distinct characteristics, Thailand possesses an excellent defense and often capitalizes well on scoring opportunities."

With a 2-4 loss, the Vietnamese women's futsal team officially becomes the former champion

The Vietnamese women's futsal team started confidently and took an early lead in just the 2nd minute. Bien Thi Hang forced a save from goalkeeper Suksen, and Thu Xuan followed up to score the opener. However, Thailand quickly regained control, equalizing 1-1 in the 5th minute before taking a 2-1 lead in the first half after a beautiful volley by Jenjira from a throw-in.

In the second half, the Vietnamese women's futsal team pushed forward seeking an equalizer. In the 31st minute, after consulting VAR, the referee decided not to award Vietnam a penalty. Immediately after, Thailand took advantage to score two more goals, extending the lead to 4-1. The efforts of the Vietnamese women's futsal team were only rewarded by Thanh Ngan's goal in the 36th minute, reducing the deficit to 2-4.

Ultimately, the Vietnamese women's futsal team's journey ended in the semifinal. According to the schedule, Coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang and his team will face Indonesia in the bronze medal match, scheduled for March 2nd.
